Jeffrey Dale Crist August 9, 1949 – September 26, 2009
Jeff was diagnosed in April of 2009 with a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma. His battle with this disease ended just 5 months later on September 26, 2009. Jeff was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend who loved life, had a strong faith in God, and touched so many lives. This event is being organized to honor and remember Jeff’s life and to help raise funds for research and awareness of this dreadful disease. Jeff loved the game of golf and we as a family are passionate about this cause and hope a cure will be found in the near future so that other families do not have to endure such a tragedy. We hope you can join us in making a difference.
Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer of the cells that make up the lining (pleura) around the lungs and chest wall and is most closely associated with asbestos exposure. Affecting about 3000 people each year in the US, mesothelioma is a devastating disease with no known cure. The cancer has a long latency period and typically does not develop for 30-50 years after first exposure to asbestos which is why it takes patients and their families by surprise with little or no warning.
David J. Sugarbaker, M.D. founded the International Mesothelioma Program at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA and their clearly defined purpose is: “Quality life extension leading to a cure”. The multidisciplinary IMP team addresses both the clinical and emotional needs of patients and serves as an international model of collaborative care.
Proceeds from the Jeff Crist Memorial Golf Outing will be donated to the IMP to advance groundbreaking research, novel treatment and compassionate patient care. To learn more about Mesothelioma or the IMP please visit their website at: www.brighamandwomens.org/mesothelioma
